REGULAR SEASON OPENS WITH SHOWCASE WEEKEND

The nine teams of the Maritime Major Female Hockey League will come together in Halifax this weekend to play 18 games which will kick off the 2023-24 regular season.  Each team will play four of their 32 regular season games over the three days of action from Saint Mary's University.

The 9 teams in the MMFHL will compete for the title of league champion, which will be determined by the best record in the regular season.  After the regular season concludes, the teams will split into their respective provinces to determine their provincial champions who will travel to Corner Brook, Newfoundland in April.  The three provincial champions from the MMFHL region (NS, NB, and PEI) will join the Newfoundland champion and host team to determine the Atlantic representative at the 2024 Esso Cup in Vernon, BC.

It all starts with the Showcase Tournament, which starts bright and early at 10am Friday morning (September 22, 2023).  The defending League, Nova Scotia, and Atlantic champions, the Northern Subway Selects will be featured in the opening game against the recently rebranded Greenfoot Capitals.  The Capitals acquired new sponsorship this season, after playing last year under the moniker of Halifax Western Capitals.  Up next the EDZA East Moncton Subaru Rockets will face the ACTION Benefits Penguins at 12 noon.  That will be followed by the defending champions from Prince Edward Island, the Down East Auto Parts Stars taking on the Fundy Kraken.  The third of last year's provincial champions, the Western Flames from New Brunswick, will start their season against the Cape Breton Lynx. Prince Edward Island's Western Wind will be the last team to debut, when they face the Penguins.
